Reminder: Building Access for Unknown Persons

Dear New Plaza residents,

Yesterday morning, a New Plaza resident who was exiting the building allowed an unknown individual to enter the lobby at the same time. The individual in question proceeded to wander around the building, including on other floors, before stealing a package from the lobby and leaving. The Board is supporting the resident whose package was stolen in contacting the police and providing video footage of the suspect.

Please take this unfortunate incident as a reminder to NEVER allow unknown individuals into the building. A seemingly harmless gesture has the potential to endanger all residents. Specifically:
  • DO NOT permit unknown individuals to enter the building when you are exiting;
  • DO NOT offer to provide building access to unknown individuals who are using the callbox when you are entering the building-- it is residents' responsibility to provide access for their guest(s);
  • DO NOT buzz in unknown callers who contact you through the callbox;
  • DO NOT permit non-Postal service vendors (e.g. cleaning crews, contractors, repairmen, deliverymen, etc.) into the building-- it is the responsibility of the resident requesting their services to provide access.
The above reminders also apply to all secured areas of the building, including the bike room, laundry room, and front yard. It is imperative that we all do our best to keep our building and fellow residents safe.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
