Laundry Room to Be Keyed

The New Plaza Board would like to make owners and residents aware of the following matter.  Last month, during a routine cleaning of the premises, a Tilmon maintenance employee found condoms in the laundry room garbage can and urine around the laundry room drain.  The employee immediately reported his findings to Tilmon Management, which, in turn, contacted the Board.  The Board checked the security footage from the previous night and found that two persons, neither of whom we could identify as building residents or somehow related to the building, entered through the front door, stopped in front of the elevator, went downstairs (via the stairs, not elevator), and exited the building approximately 10 minutes later through the front door.  The intruders entered the building around 3:30 a.m., about 30 minutes after a resident exited and re-entered the building, bringing in his/her dog for a walk.  It is not clear as to whether the door somehow malfunctioned, the intruders got buzzed into the building, or whether the intruders had a key or other access.

The Board reported the matter to both the local police and Matt Connolly (ANC representative), who continues to work on neighborhood crime and incidents related to prostitution. In addition to looking into getting another security camera for the front door (outside the building, above the doors) and having new front doors installed, the Board voted to have the laundry room keyed to the front door and bike room so that only owners and residents will have access to it.  The laundry room will remain locked throughout the day and night.

If you (or your tenant) do not already have a blue key, contact the Board ASAP. Tilmon has scheduled a locksmith to come to the building the morning of December 27, 2012 at which time the locksmith will determine if/when the new lock will be installed.  We will send out another email or blog post once the lock is installed.

If you have any questions or would like further clarification, please contact the Board at board@thenewplaza.com.

As a final reminder -- please make sure that the front doors close and lock behind you and do not give out fobs or front door keys to guests or employees, including cleaning staff and dog walkers.  It is imperative that we all do our best to keep our building and residents safe.
