Prostitution-Related Arrests

In recent weeks, several New Plaza residents have noticed increased presence of prostitues at the corner of 12th & Massachusetts Ave during the early morning hours. The following article on local neighborhood blog Borderstan details an arrest operation recently undertaken by the Metropolitan Police Department to address the issue: http://www.borderstan.com/06/prostitution-operation-friday-morning-nets-10-arrests/

Request to Contact Jack Evans

New Plaza residents, Lisa Sutter with the Metropolitan Police Department's (MPD) Automated Traffic Enforcement Unit responded to the letter sent to her last week ( click here to view ) by the New Plaza Board. She is familiar with the intersection at 12th & Mass, NW and agrees a photo enforcement device would help alleviate the perpetual blocking of the box during rush hour. Lisa explained that the contracts which will enable MPD to install new photo enforcement devices are to be presented to the City Council on July 2. Please take a moment to contact Councilmember Jack Evans' office and urge him to vote in favor of approving the contracts: http://www.jackevans.org/contact/

Noise and Gridlock at 12th & Mass

At a recent Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) meeting, Lisa Sutter with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announced that the city's automated photo enforcement program will expand in the coming months with over two dozen new traffic cameras. MPD is currently soliciting resident suggestions for the locations of these cameras, which are intended to not only target red-light runners, but also cars that block the box and create dangerous gridlock conditions for pedestrians. Our intersection at 12th & Mass Ave is notorious for the noise, gridlock, and related safety hazards that occur there daily, especially during morning and evening rush hour. The Board is submitting this letter (click here)  to MPD requesting the installation of a photo enforcement device at our intersection. We urge all New Plaza  residents  to also write Ms. Sutter with a supporting request.    It is important that Ms. Sutter hears from numerous citizens about the dangerous conditions of the interse

Reminder: Laundry Machine Usage

At the request of several residents, the Board would like to remind pet owners in the building to please observe House Rules about pet hair-free washing machines and dryers . If you have a pet, please do not use the pet hair-free machines to do your laundry. These machines are set aside for residents who are sensitive or allergic to pet hair and dander, or who otherwise appreciate not having pet hair in their clean laundry.  The Board has asked Tilmon to ensure weekly building maintenance includes the cleaning of the insides of the machines in order to remove pet hair and other items that collect.
