Long Term Traffic Advisory for Mass Ave (through 2016)

***TRAFFIC ADVISORY***

Heavy Construction on Massachusetts Avenue NW Underway
Motorists Advised to Seek Alternative Routes
Lane Closures Expected to Last 18-24 Months

(Washington, DC) – The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will be implementing daytime lane closures on H Street NW and Massachusetts Avenue NW, between 2nd and 4th Streets NW, starting on Monday, September 8, 2014. The lane closures will continue to take place on a daily basis, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

This important utility relocation and upgrade project will be under construction until end of 2016, and traffic impacts will be 6 days per week for the duration of the project. The current phase of related work—which involves upgrading and installing new underground utilities and restoring the roadway along these two corridors—is expected to last for approximately 18-24 months, weather permitting.

Traffic control signs will be placed to guide travelers along the corridor and direct traffic to alternative routes.  As the work progresses, residents and businesses will be notified of any changes or updates to the project activities and schedule.

Construction activities and intermittent lane closures during this phase of work will occur Monday-Friday, between the hours of 7a.m. and 10pm, and Saturday 8am to 8pm. Additional nighttime hours and Sunday work may be required and scheduled as needed.

Motorists are advised to plan for additional travel time, as traffic delays are likely to occur, and/or use alternate routes to bypass the construction area.

DDOT encourages all motorists and pedestrians to stay alert and follow all signs as they travel through this corridor.
